Our Process

Five phases, one accountable team, and a written number before anything is torn out. Here is how an Element project moves from the first visit at your home to the final walkthrough, and how long each step takes.

Design First. Built Right.

What to Expect When You Work With Element

We design your entire space before construction begins. You see your actual selections in 3D renderings, every product is specified down to the item number, and your price is built from real drawings, not guesses. That is why our projects don’t stall or surprise.

You are a partner at every step: in the selections, in the layout, and in every final decision. Our job is to make those decisions clear, and then to build exactly what you approved.

Five phases, one team

Our Process

Visit & Estimate · 1 to 2 Weeks

We come to your home, measure, scan and photograph the space, and walk every room you want to discuss. Within 24 to 48 hours you have a written preliminary estimate, and we walk through it together at our Hudson showroom.

Design · Roughly 9 to 10 Weeks

Signing your estimate starts design. The design fee is 10% of the estimate, reduced at higher project values, and it is credited toward your project at contract. Your designer arrives with a first layout already drawn.

Proposal & Contract · 1 to 2 Weeks

Your final proposal is reconciled line by line against your estimate and reviewed together at the showroom, so you can see exactly what changed and why. Your construction schedule is confirmed in writing when you sign.

Pre-Construction · 4 to 8 Weeks

Material lead times set this phase. Everything is received and checked at our warehouse, and we schedule your start once the key materials are in hand, so work doesn’t stop midway.

Construction

One project lead runs your job with our dedicated crews and long-term trade partners, each working from a written work order with Element’s standards. Any change is agreed in writing by amendment before the work is done.

Walkthrough & Closeout

We walk the finished space together and complete the punch list before your final payment. You receive a warranty and care packet, and we capture final photos of your new space.

Typical durations once work begins

How Long Does a Remodel Take?

  • Powder room or hall bath: about 4 weeks
  • Primary bathroom: 5 to 7 weeks
  • Kitchen: 8 to 12 weeks
  • Finished basement: about 3 to 4 months
  • Home addition: 6 to 12 months

Add the phases before construction, and the time from first visit to finished kitchen is typically about seven months. Your construction schedule is confirmed in writing when your contract is signed, and custom cabinetry and special-order doors and windows typically need 4 to 6 weeks or more of lead time, which is why materials are ordered the day the contract is signed.

No surprises in the schedule or the invoices

Your Payments Follow the Work

  1. Design fee. 10% of your estimate, reduced at higher project values, paid to start design and credited to your contract.
  2. Material deposit at contract signing. Your material invoice lists every material in your proposal, organized by section, and everything is ordered once it is paid.
  3. Progress payments as the work is completed. Draws follow finished work, not the calendar.
  4. Final payment after your walkthrough. We complete the punch list first.

Experience it In-Person

Visit Our Hudson, Ohio Showroom

Our design studio and showroom at 6721 Chittenden Rd in Hudson is where estimates are presented and selections are made. It carries three tiers of cabinetry under one roof (Fabuwood, Covered Bridge and local Amish custom shops), Cambria quartz from our own Cornerstone stone shop, and designer lighting and fixtures, so every decision is made from real samples with your designer beside you.

Process Questions From Northeast Ohio Homeowners

How long does a remodel take from first visit to finished project?

The phases are consistent: 1 to 2 weeks for the visit and estimate, roughly 9 to 10 weeks of design, 1 to 2 weeks for proposal and contract, and 4 to 8 weeks of pre-construction while materials arrive. Construction typically runs about 4 weeks for a hall bath, 5 to 7 weeks for a primary bathroom, 8 to 12 weeks for a kitchen, about 3 to 4 months for a finished basement, and 6 to 12 months for an addition. From first visit to finished kitchen is typically about seven months.

No. The design fee is 10% of your estimate, reduced at higher project values. It starts the design phase, and it is credited toward your project when you sign the contract, so the design is not an extra cost on top of the build.

Your payments follow the work: the design fee, already credited to your contract; a material deposit when you sign, so every material can be ordered right away; progress payments as the work is completed; and a final payment after your walkthrough and punch list.

Our own crews and long-term trade partners, led by one project lead who is your point of contact on site. Every trade partner works from a written work order with Element’s standards, has a signed agreement and current insurance on file, keeps floor protection in place, and cleans the work area at the end of every day.

You hear about it in writing, with a price, before the work proceeds. Every change is agreed by written amendment before it is done, and trade partners are not allowed to take on extra work for you without a written change order from Element.

Every project comes with our one-year workmanship warranty per the contract package, with manufacturer product and material warranties passed through to you. At closeout you receive a warranty and care packet for your new space.
